Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson who were both lawyers. When she was five, she relocated from London to Oxfordshire to attend the Dragon School. Emma's ambition was to become an actor. At the age of six, she joined the Oxford Stagecoach Theatre Arts branch, where she took classes in acting, singing and dance. In a school play and the stage of a Stagecoach production, Emma took her role as lead actress at 10 and performed. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) was the movie version from J.K. Rowlings bestselling novel was filmed for the first time in 1999. Emma was identified by casting agents through Emma's Oxford theatre teacher. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone and Ron Weasley told Emma after eight auditions that she had been picked for these parts. The cast included Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. Emma's debut on screen was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone's debut in 2001. It was the year's top production, and it broke records at the opening as well as the first weekend. Reviewers were awed by the performance of the film as well as its story. The Daily Telegraph praised Emma for her excellent performance. In the following days, Emma was shortlisted for five prizes for her work in the film, winning the Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress in the feature Film.
